Aging is simply a part of life and with aging comes changes in your skin, most notably for some people is wrinkles. There are several factors that contribute to the appearance of wrinkles but they generally fall into one of two categories lifestyle and aging. For most people the only thing they want to know about wrinkles is how to treat or better yet prevent them from occurring.
Aging and Wrinkles
Several things happen to the human body as it ages. When it comes to wrinkles the decreased production of natural oils and diminishing fat layers are the main culprits. Fewer oils mean your skin becomes dry and less elastic. On top of reduced elasticity, loss of fat allows the skin to fold and sag. You cannot do a whole lot about getting older but with a healthy diet and a few lifestyle changes, you could delay the effects.
Lifestyle
Anything that accelerates the aging process can lead to wrinkles and this is especially true. If you smoke or spend copious amounts of time in the sun, you will vastly increase your risk of early aging.
- Smoking- when you consume tobacco products blood flow is restricted to many areas of the body, including your skin.
- Sun exposure- UV rays from the sun and tanning bulbs breaks down the collagen and elastin fibers in your skin resulting in sagging and wrinkling.
- Facial Expressions- over time repeated facial expressions can leave their mark. Crow’s feet and parentheses around the mouth are both good examples. (Of course, no one is suggesting you stop smiling or laughing!)
Treatment and Prevention
What is the best skin solution for wrinkles? There is no treatment outside of plastic surgery that will completely eliminate wrinkles, however you can minimize and delay their appearance by following a few simple tips.
- Use appropriate amounts of sunblock
- Drink plenty of water- dehydration can leave your skin dry and more wrinkle prone
- Avoid tobacco products
- Include more fruits and vegetable- antioxidants fight free radicals in the body and leave your skin looking vibrant
- Moisturizer- skin that is moisturized masks the appearance of fine lines
- Sleep- getting plenty of sleep increases the production of human growth hormone, which increases skin thickness and elasticity.
